The goal was to create a brand and product experience that reflects MarineWorks’ mission — enabling maritime professionals to charter sustainable equipment quickly, without hidden fees or operational complexity.

There were two main challenges: the time constraint and the need to create a sync between the vast portfolio of assets of the fleet owners and the platform.

To meet the deadline, I began with a competitive analysis to map the niche landscape. I created a section-based information architecture to define the website and platform scope. To ensure key flows delivered value, I mapped 3 core CJMs. Before launch, I ran usability benchmarking to validate performance against competitors.

Designing Clarity for Urgent Marine Missions

Designing Clarity for Urgent Marine Missions
Working closely with MarineWorks’ founders, I shaped a digital platform to simplify maritime rentals. I mapped user journeys, built a clear architecture, and designed a flexible system of typography, colors, and patterns for scalability. The brand direction emphasized clarity and ecological trust, supported by refreshed visuals and tone. By launch, MarineWorks had a seamless, sustainable product experience ready to scale.

Competitive Analysis
DISCOVERY: I needed to understand the designs of existing websites and areas where our platform could excel and be ahead of the curve. RESULTS:The current website outperforms similar websites on the accounted parameters.
Information architecture
DISCOVERY: As clients had only a general idea of the platform, I knew we needed a structured organization of pages and sections. RESULTS: Section-based structure of the website and the platform was created and implemented.
customer journey maps
DISCOVERY: Creating CJM for the main flows allowed me to gather a full picture of the customer and their pain points. RESULTS: Expected and implemented user flows were tested with real customers, with a success rate over 95%.
Usability benchmarking
DISCOVERY: Core features and flows tested among competitors met the expected margin. RESULTS: Time to submit an action for core functionality was within ≈30s among the core competitors.

I have started designing the website and the platform with creating a neutral palette and an accent color. I created components for the sections that are repeated more than twice. Moving from section to section and following the customer journey map, I was able to design the functionality for the main flows. I also created empty states, error and success messages and edge cases. For the brand visual direction, client request was to go minimalistic, so I opted for photography and minimalistic illustrations. I also was charged to create images for 60+ supported regions globally as well as continents.

The project was launched within the agreed-upon timeline, and we managed to iterate and test the core functionality with high satisfactory results. The project caught the attention of the Dutch government, and we are hoping to reduce the global pollution partially caused by the excess development of nautical equipment, which instead can be chartered between asset owners and businesses all around the globe.
